Madison Keys warns: "Tennis must offer a decent income to more players"
On Thursday, Madison Keys was one of the headliners at the Charlotte Invitational, an exhibition that also featured Venus Williams, Taylor Fritz, and Frances Tiafoe. The Australian Open champion, like her colleagues, participated in a press conference.
"Offering a decent income to more players"
This was an opportunity for her to discuss the prize money offered by tournaments and the significant inequality that exists between top players and those who are lower-ranked. Her comments were reported by the media The Tennis Gazette:
"I know that obviously, it's mostly the top players who take home the majority of the earnings, and it's a very expensive sport. It's very difficult to get into it, to sustain it, and to finance everything.
So, in my opinion, for the future of tennis, it would be amazing if we could develop the sport in a way that offers a decent income to a larger number of people."
