Madrid ATP/WTA: Organization Cancels All Matches for the Day
The Madrid tournament experienced a disastrous day. While all matches started normally on Monday, April 28, 2025, the schedule was completely disrupted due to external issues.
Indeed, following a power outage in the Spanish capital, the organizers first suspended matches around 1 p.m., with a resumption initially planned for 3:30 p.m.
However, the decision has just been announced: all matches scheduled for today will not take place.
"For reasons beyond the organization's control and to ensure safety, the widespread power outage affecting Spain on Monday, April 28 has led to the suspension of both day and night sessions of the Mutua Madrid Open," the tournament stated on its X account.
The technological systems on the courts (Skycam, scoreboards, electronic lines) were disrupted, and spectators were left in complete darkness, creating unusual scenes inside the Caja Mágica.
