Mahut's message on social media: "It's just a goodbye, because I know I will never be very far away"
After 25 years of career, Nicolas Mahut ended his career in recent weeks. Former world number 37 in singles, the Frenchman particularly shone in doubles, as he won five Grand Slam titles with Pierre-Hugues Herbert, including Roland-Garros twice (2018 and 2021).
"A tremendous journey traveled"
At the Paris tournament, the native of Angers, aged 43, thus played his last match alongside Grigor Dimitrov, and the two men lost to Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Hugo Nys. On Instagram in recent hours, Mahut shared his state of mind several weeks after officially starting his new life.
"Several weeks have passed, and little by little, I'm coming down from my cloud realizing what really happened at the Rolex Paris Masters. 25 years. 25 years of career coming to an end. So much joy, sweat, points played, sometimes disappointments, many encounters, but above all a tremendous journey traveled.
Thank you to all those who took part in this adventure, from near and far. Thank you to my family for always supporting me. Thank you to the French Tennis Federation for training me since my junior years and for allowing me to say goodbye in the most beautiful way.
Thank you to Grigor Dimitrov for sharing the court with me for my last match. And above all, thank you to you, the public, for accompanying me all these years. It's not a farewell, just a goodbye, because I know I will never be very far away," Mahut wrote on Instagram.
