Mannarino, defeat and regrets against Thompson at Paris-Bercy
Adrian Mannarino's adventure in the 2024 edition of the Rolex Paris Masters came to an end this Thursday afternoon in the Round of 16. He was beaten by Jordan Thompson in two sets (7-5, 7-6[5]) and just under two and a half hours of play on Court Central.
Frustration ran high for the Frenchman after the match point, and his racket took the brunt of it (see video below). He can now look back with regret, as he came very close to turning things around.
First in the first set, when he came back from 5-2 down to 5-5 before collapsing on his serve. Then, especially in the second set, he had two set points in a row (40-15) on his serve before losing the next four points. He also led 5-3 in the tie-break before conceding 4 points in a row.
These lapses in concentration at key moments are a reminder that Mannarino has been through a very complicated season, and that confidence is not fully rebuilt in just a few days. But this defeat does not call into question all the positive signs he has shown this week.
