Thompson on the length of a tennis season: "It's a joke".
Many players have spoken out over the years to declare unanimously that seasons in professional tennis are too long.
With just five weeks between the last week of the season and the start of the next one with the United Cup, tennis is one of the sports with the shortest pre-season.
Jordan Thompson spoke out on the subject, emphasizing the particular conditions for an Australian. He says: "It feels like pre-season lasts two seconds.
It's tough, especially for us Australians. We leave after the Australian Open and don't come back until the Davis Cup is over.
We come back at the end of November. So we're away for ten to eleven months.
That's a three-week break if you're playing Davis Cup. And on top of that, they're pushing for an even earlier start.
The 2025 season starts in 2024, that's a joke. We should be playing next week. There are a lot of things in our sport that need fixing right now.
