Thompson annoyed by the calendar: "It's a joke to start the 2025 season in 2024"
Jordan Thompson made it through the 1st round of the Brisbane tournament on Monday, beating Matteo Berrettini in three sets.
In a press conference after his victory, the world No.26 spoke of the calendar problem and the disadvantage Australian players face due to the very short vacations: "It feels like it lasts two seconds (smiles). It's difficult, especially for the Australians.
We go away after the Australian Open and don't come back until November when the Davis Cup is over. It's a long season like that.
We're away for ten, eleven months. I don't know how the 2025 season starts in 2024. I mean, it's a joke. We should be playing next week.
There are a lot of things that need to be sorted out in our sport right now."
