Mannarino defeated despite match point in Miami!
Adrian Mannarino has been going through a rough patch since mid-February. After a very good Australian Open, where he reached the last 16 with victories over Stan Wawrinka and Ben Shelton, the Frenchman is struggling to get back into the swing of things. He has won just one match in four tournaments, and his confidence is beginning to seriously erode.
His defeat this Sunday in the 2nd round of the Miami Masters 1000 is the perfect illustration. Mannarino initially dominated proceedings against Yannick Hanfmann. He easily won the first set and continued his winning ways in the 2nd. But he failed to capitalize on any of his chances.
The Frenchman had 6 break points in the 2nd act alone, but failed to convert a single one. And when you consider that one of these break points was also a match point, the frustration is all the greater. The German then dominated the tie-break before clearly dominating the 3rd set. Mannarino will probably have many regrets.
