"Many of my goals are sometimes not concrete," says Pegula ahead of the WTA Finals in Riyadh

Many of my goals are sometimes not concrete, says Pegula ahead of the WTA Finals in Riyadh

Qualified for the WTA Finals, Jessica Pegula has never hidden her ambitions for the end of her career.

At 31, Pegula has managed to stabilize and remain in the top 10. The American very regularly achieves excellent results on the tour, and has even won three titles this season in Austin, Charleston, and Bad Homburg.

She will compete in the WTA Finals in Riyadh in the coming days for the fourth consecutive time, having reached the final two years ago against Iga Swiatek. She will face Sabalenka, Gauff, and Paolini in the group stage.

The Buffalo native stated in a pre-tournament interview that her goals for the end of her career have not changed, and she fully intends to give herself the means to achieve them.

"My dreams and ambitions have always been the same. I always wanted to be world number one and be a professional tennis player. I wanted to win Grand Slam tournaments. And I think all of that hasn't changed.

It's pretty crazy when you're a little six or seven-year-old girl and you get to where I am today, with a real chance to achieve these goals that I haven't achieved yet, and also to accomplish many goals that I didn't think I would achieve, but that maybe hadn't crossed my mind.

To be honest, I would say my goals have remained the same. Maybe they have evolved and become deeper or broader with age. Many of my goals are sometimes not concrete. I think you have to set a lot of small goals, and every week, I set new ones for myself.

It's sometimes normal to feel a lot of emotions, whether about yourself, your game, or something off the court. But I think trying to keep that perspective is probably what helps me get back to the right mindset in my thoughts and process," Pegula assured Tennis Up To Date.
