Mauresmo pays tribute to Nadal: "A man who always kept it simple".
Roland-Garros director Amélie Mauresmo posted a short video on the tournament's account to pay tribute to Rafael Nadal, who retired yesterday.
If Rafael Nadal's career is legendary, it will forever be associated with the French Open, which he won fourteen times.
Amélie Mauresmo, director of the event since 2021, felt it only logical to pay tribute to the Majorcan: "Rafa, I don't have the words to tell you how much we owe you for everything you've done for this sport. Not just for tennis, but for sport in general.
For the man you are, the values you've brought to the court, the values you've brought to the sport. Of course, there are the fourteen victories at Roland-Garros, the 22 Grand Slams. It's impressive and incredible.
But the fact that you're this man, who has always kept it simple, with these values that you carry deep inside you, that's, for me, what I appreciate most.
I know you've got a lot ahead of you with your family and your academy, and I'll be following that closely. And I can't wait to welcome you back to Roland Garros."
