Mayot Secures First Masters 1000 Win as Moutet Retires
Harold Mayot defeated Corentin Moutet (6-3, 4-2, ret.) in the first round of Madrid, marking his first career Masters 1000 victory.
A visibly furious Moutet first smashed his racket before informing the umpire of his decision to retire. The Frenchman appeared to be struggling with a back issue.
Earlier, Mayot had eliminated Shevchenko in the first round of qualifying (6-2, 7-5) and Boyer in the following match (7-5, 6-2). He will now face Cerundolo.
