Medvedev: "I'm happy to win"
Daniil Medvedev's performance on Tuesday was pretty crazy.
Opposed to a Jannik Sinner who seemed to be unstoppable, the world number 5 played at a very serious level to win after 4 hours (6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3).
Against a visibly weakened Italian, the Russian never lost his concentration and will meet Alcaraz again in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Interviewed after his victory, he explained: "It's always tricky because you want to play more points to make him suffer a little more... in a good way (laughs). At the same time, you know that at some point he's going to say 'ok, I can't race anymore. So I'm going to go all out'.
And that's what he did. He had set points to win the third set. In a way, maybe I'd rather not have had that situation. All's well when it ends well. So I'm quite happy. I knew that if I wanted to beat Jannik, it had to be a tough match.
He's no longer a guy you can beat easily. I sensed that at one point he wasn't feeling well, but I knew he could pull through. He started to play better. I'm happy to have managed to stay at a high level.
It was good points and a good match. I'm happy to win and I'm looking forward to it (in the semi-final against Alcaraz).
