Medvedev withdraws, Lehecka qualifies for semi-finals in Madrid!

We told you about the Russian's physical state a few minutes ago. After injuring his adductor muscles in the 4th game of the match, Daniil Medvedev called a medical time-out, but the physio's intervention was not enough. As expected, the world number 4 was unable to go all the way and retired after playing the 2nd part of the 1st set almost on one leg. Jiri Lehecka now finds himself in the semi-finals at the Caja Magica, where he will face Félix Auger-Aliassime (who benefited from Jannik Sinner's withdrawal).
The end of the Madrid Masters 1000 was marred by a series of forfeits and withdrawals. In the semi-finals, Lehecka and Auger-Aliassime, two players who have played little or none of their quarter-final matches, will face each other. Playing at an exceptional level this week, but also benefiting from a stroke of good fortune, one of these two surprise guests will reach the final.
The Madrid tournament continues to defy the odds, with only one top 10 player still in the running (Andrey Rublev). So, one thing is certain: an unexpected winner will be crowned on Sunday.
