Miami Masters 1000: Gaston Advances to Second Round, Bonzi Eliminated Early

Hugo Gaston and Benjamin Bonzi were the only two French players in action at the Miami Masters 1000 this Thursday.
Gaston, a lucky loser at the last minute following Kei Nishikori's withdrawal, took advantage of the opportunity to qualify for the second round after Yoshihito Nishioka retired, although he seemed well on his way to victory as he led 6-4, 3-1.
In the next round, he will face Matteo Berrettini, the tournament's 29th seed.
For Benjamin Bonzi, the year 2025 continues to be challenging, as the Frenchman lost his ninth match of the season and his fourth in the first round of a tournament.
Against Jacob Fearnley, he fell after three sets and 2 hours and 19 minutes of play, despite a strong comeback in the second set (7-6, 2-6, 6-4).
Eight French players are now in the second round in Miami, with Arthur Fils, Ugo Humbert, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard set to join the competition.
