The curse continues: 20/20 for Fearnley against the French

Undefeated in his career against the French, Jacob Fearnley continued his streak in Roanne in recent hours.
Jacob Fearnley is not just the 80th best player in the world in the ATP rankings.

The 24-year-old Brit is also the ultimate nemesis of French tennis players. Indeed, since Fearnley played his first professional match in 2022, he has never been defeated against French players, in 19 encounters. In the first round of the Roanne Challenger, the number 1 seed faced Luca Van Assche for the first time.

The latter had the opportunity to end the terrible curse of French tennis against Fearnley. Moreover, the world number 201 had a perfect start to his match and won the first set.

But Fearnley did not panic and eventually turned the situation around (3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in 2h24). He thus records his 20th victory in 20 matches against the French and continues his incredible streak.

In the Roanne quarterfinals, he will face Dominic Stricker. If things go well, Fearnley could meet Hugo Gaston in the semifinals. The latter, for his part, successfully made his debut by dominating the Norwegian player Viktor Durasovic (7-5, 6-3) and will face Borna Gojo for a spot in the quarterfinals.
