Michelsen sets out his ambitions for the Next Gen ATP Finals: "I have a job to finish in Saudi Arabia".
Alex Michelsen will be one of the headliners at the Next Gen ATP Finals, which kick off this Wednesday, December 18 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The American has enjoyed a fine season that has seen him reach 41st in the world, his highest ranking at the age of 20.
He took part in the tournament last year, losing all his matches in the group stage. He hopes to do better this season.
"Last year, I turned professional in August, and everything happened quickly. I wasn't ready to perform at this level.
Now I've had a full season's experience on the circuit. That should serve me well for this tournament in Saudi Arabia.
I can only improve, having lost all my matches last year. I'm really looking forward to getting back out there and giving it my all.
I've got a job to finish there, that's for sure", he warned The Sit-Down podcast.
Michelsen went on to talk about some of his rivals for the Next Gen Masters: "I haven't played Arthur Fils, but he's won two ATP 500s this year.
I've played Shang and Mensik as juniors many times. They're really strong. I train with Learner Tien.
It'll be interesting if we have to play each other. I'm glad he's doing well on his own too, he's a very close friend."
Finally, the American player spoke of João Fonseca: "He completely wore me out in Madrid (the Brazilian won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2).
I know what he's capable of. He reminds me of a mini Sinner. The way he hits the ball is the same. I've played against both of them.
You don't see that very often. With this group of players, it's bound to be tough."
