Monfils Edges Out Munar in Miami Thriller
Gaël Monfils has advanced to the round of 16 at the Miami Masters 1000 after defeating Jaume Munar.
The match concluded in a third-set tie-break, which the Frenchman won seven points to one.
Monfils was in a precarious position, as Munar served for the match at 6-5.
With this hard-fought victory, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6, Monfils becomes the second-oldest player to reach the round of 16 in a Masters 1000 event, behind Ivo Karlovic.
This win also secures his return to the Top 25 in the ATP Race.
Next, he will face Sebastian Korda for a spot in the quarterfinals, who previously eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The two players met just two weeks ago in Indian Wells, with Monfils emerging victorious.
