Monfils: "I can't even say it's a goal".

Monfils: I can't even say it's a goal.

Gaël Monfils didn't mince his words.

Although he has won his Olympic bet by qualifying for the Games, the Frenchman arrives in Paris with measured objectives.

Indeed, while his motivation is still there and he's still capable of some fine performances, 'La Monf' is also well aware of the growing gap between himself and the young guns on the ATP circuit.

Commenting on his debut, he told a press conference: "I don't know what I'm going to be able to give, but I'm going to try to be at my best.

As I always say, I'm ambitious, but the truth is that I'm a bit older (37).

I'm just trying to keep up with these young guys.

You always have a dream, you're still at the Olympics, of course you dream of bringing home a medal for your country. That would be fabulous.

I can't even say it's a goal. That's what I want to dream about. But it's very hard. Even when I was fit and young, I never managed to do it. This time, it's going to be a bit harder."

The Frenchman will have a tough task ahead of him, facing an in-form Lorenzo Musetti who dominated him here a few weeks ago (7-5, 6-1, 6-4 in the 2nd round of the French Open).
