Monfils kicks off 2025 season with win over Basavareddy in Brisbane
Gaël Monfils didn't have an easy first round at the ATP 250 Brisbane. On Tuesday, he beat Nishesh Basavareddy 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
The Frenchman came through in three sets, beating a young player in great form (the two players are 19 years apart) and who will benefit from a wild card at the Australian Open.
On serve, Monfils performed well, hitting 18 aces. In the second round, he will probably have his work cut out against the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Rinky Hijikata.
