Monfils touched by Nadal's retirement: "A new legend leaves".
This weekend, Gaël Monfils will be playing in the UTS final in London, in the company of other tour players.
Ahead of the start of this competition organized by Patrick Mouratoglou, the Frenchman looked back at the latest events on the tennis planet, starting with Rafael Nadal's retirement.
The two men met 16 times on the circuit, with the Spaniard winning 14 and losing 2.
Monfils, who exploded onto the scene when Nadal was already among the best, was able to rub shoulders with the Majorcan for over a decade on the circuit.
Speaking to Tennis Majors, he gave his thoughts on the Spanish legend's retirement: "It's a new legend who's leaving. These are always special moments because Rafa has left such a mark on our sport, really.
He was more than just an ambassador for our sport, he went beyond tennis.
It's one of the greatest sportsmen of all time who's leaving his sport, so it's a page that's being turned, and inevitably it makes you a little nostalgic."
