Moutet reacts to his Davis Cup defeat: "I was caught up by the tension at the end of the second set"

Corentin Moutet had an excellent start to the match but ended up losing in three sets to Raphaël Collignon in the first match of the Davis Cup quarter-finals.

France is now with its back against the wall in its Davis Cup quarter-final against Belgium. After a strong start, Moutet ultimately lost in a nail-biter against Collignon (2-6, 7-5, 7-5 in 2 hours and 32 minutes of play).

The match took a turn for the worse, and the Frenchman complicated things for himself on one particular point. At 6-5 for Collignon and then 15/15 on Moutet's serve in the second set, the latter decided to attempt a tweener at the net to win the point, even though he had the open court.

However, he completely missed his shot, which cost him the game a few points later and consequently the set as well. Shortly after his loss, the 26-year-old player, ranked 35th in the world, shared his initial thoughts.

"I'm obviously disappointed. I was caught up by the tension at the end of the second set. That between-the-legs shot? There are plenty of smarter options, that's for sure. If I had to do it over, I wouldn't do it again. I think it was a bad choice driven by the stress of the moment.

That last game of the second set overall was very poor. It's a real shame, but he also played a very good match, you have to give him that," Moutet told the French Tennis Federation media after his defeat.
