Disappointment for France, eliminated by Belgium in the Davis Cup quarter-finals
After Corentin Moutet's defeat, Arthur Rinderknech was unable to bring France level with Belgium. Les Bleus are eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup, while the Belgians will play in the semi-finals later in the week.
After the disappointment of Corentin Moutet's loss to Raphaël Collignon in a nail-biting finish (2-6, 7-5, 7-5), the French team absolutely had to react in the second match of the Davis Cup quarter-finals.
It was up to Arthur Rinderknech, who is in good form at the end of this season having reached the final of the Shanghai Masters 1000 last month, to save France from elimination in the second singles match.
To do so, the world number 29 had to overcome Zizou Bergs, an opponent he had never faced before. Unfortunately for France, Rinderknech was unable to dominate the Belgian and level the tie at one win apiece.
Very solid in this match, the world number 43, who played a poor game when serving for the match at 5-4, ultimately won in two sets after saving two set points in the second set (6-3, 7-6 in 1h33).
A disappointment for Les Bleus, who came to Bologna with the intention of reaching their first final in this competition since 2018 but were stopped by their neighbors for the first time in the Davis Cup since 1997. After four consecutive wins against Belgium (1999, 2001, 2017, and 2022), this marks the end of the streak for France against today's opponent.
Captain Steve Darcis's team is therefore the first country to reach the semi-finals of this 2025 edition and will face the winner of the quarter-final to be played on Wednesday between Italy and Austria.
