Moutet Wins in Thrilling Fashion Against Rune in Rome After Marathon Match

Corentin Moutet and Holger Rune likely played one of the most memorable matches of this 2025 Rome Masters 1000 edition.
After two tightly contested sets, won 7-5 by Moutet and then by Rune, the third set delivered its share of drama.
Moutet secured the first break and had the chance to serve for the match at 5-4. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, he failed to convert any of his three match points, well-handled by Rune and perhaps played too cautiously by Moutet.
Then came the decisive tie-break, where the Dane struck first with a mini-break. Moutet eventually clawed it back, winning two points on Rune’s serve before closing out the match on his own serve—despite dropping another point along the way.
Interviewed after the match, he said: "It was really tough today. Rune is an incredible player, he fought until the end. I battled so hard with myself today, I’m really happy. I think this was my best clay-court match this year."
This victory marks his first against a Top 10 player, and he could next face another elite opponent in Jack Draper, who is currently playing against Vit Kopriva.
