Muller, Defeated by Tiafoe: "I’ll Keep Working Hard, and One Day, I’ll Go Even Further"
Alexandre Muller will not advance to the round of 16 at the Madrid Masters 1000. The Frenchman was outplayed by a solid Frances Tiafoe (6-3, 6-3), who will face Matteo Arnaldi this Wednesday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Though disappointed with his performance, the 28-year-old player still chose to focus on the positives, as he stated in the press conference following his loss to the American.
"Tactically, I roughly knew what to do—trying to find the right angles—but his game prevented me from executing it. I had a break point at 2-2 in the second set on a backhand that just missed.
You never know how things could have turned out if I’d taken the lead. But overall, he was the one dominating the match. I’ll keep training hard. My physical condition is holding up too. It’s still a third round in a Masters 1000, so we’ll focus on the positives.
Of course, I always want to do better. In terms of points, it doesn’t add up to much—only 50 points. I’ll keep working hard, and one day, I’ll go even further," assured the world No. 39, who had previously defeated David Goffin and Ugo Humbert, for L’Équipe.
