Murray: "After a year, Federer refused to train with me"
Andy Murray has faced some of the biggest names in tennis history, including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
But behind the thrilling rivalries and historic confrontations, there is a tacit code that few know: Federer avoided his competitors off the court.
"He didn't want to train with me anymore"
"I trained with all three at first (Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer). But Federer quickly stopped after a year or two. He didn't want to train with me anymore.
He also never trained with Djokovic or Nadal, because he considered them competitors," Murray recounts in a video on the YouTube channel Stephen Hendry Cue Tips.
"It allowed me to see where my game stood"
However, unlike the Swiss player, Murray saw these sessions as a way to gauge his level and prepare against the best. "I liked training with them, because it allowed me to see where my game stood," he explains.
But he also specifies the limits: "I didn't train with them a few days before an important match, but a few weeks before a major tournament, yes."
