Musetti on fatherhood: "It created problems for me"
As Lorenzo Musetti is about to become a father for the second time, the Italian player recalls a particularly complex period.
In 2023, the unexpected pregnancy of his partner, Veronica Confalonieri, disrupted his daily life, sowing doubt and causing personal and professional tensions.
"The arrival of our first child was a real upheaval, a wonderful surprise. It wasn't planned, but we decided to keep it: I had to rethink my life," Musetti confides to La Repubblica.
Between house renovations, preparing for his new family life, and sporting obligations, the 21-year-old player felt overwhelmed. "I was afraid I wasn't ready for these changes... I had doubts about my ability to balance being a tennis player, partner, and father," he explains.
Impact on his career and performances
This personal questioning was reflected on the court. Musetti admits that fan criticism and media pressure sometimes weighed on his performances:
"It wasn't easy, it created doubts and problems. I was hurt by the negative judgment from fans, as if becoming a father meant turning my back on the sport."
Yet, this difficult period had a paradoxical effect. Adapting to fatherhood allowed him to better manage his professional life and reach a new level.
"Becoming a parent gave me an extra boost... My personal journey developed in parallel with my professional journey."
A new preparation for a second fatherhood
With the imminent arrival of his second child, Musetti says he is more serene and better prepared. Drawing on the experience gained, he sees this new stage as a strength, not an obstacle.
His son Ludovico, who will be two years old in March 2026, remains at the center of his priorities, but never at the expense of his career: "For me, children are not an obstacle. On the contrary, they help me mature on and off the court."
