"My doctor advised me to rest," says Tsitsipas after his withdrawal in Athens
Stefanos Tsitsipas has officially ended his 2025 season after withdrawing from the Athens tournament scheduled for next week.
Tsitsipas will not play again this year. The Greek player, who has endured a very difficult season marked notably by recurring back pain, has not played any official matches outside of the Davis Cup since the US Open.
Although the world No. 26 did participate in the Six Kings Slam exhibition in mid-October, he subsequently withdrew from the ATP 500 in Vienna, the Paris Masters 1000, and the ATP 250 in Athens. The player himself justified his withdrawal from the Greek tournament on social media.
"Hello everyone, I am sad to announce that I will not be participating in the Hellenic Championship in Athens. My doctor advised me to rest and focus on recovery so that I will be ready for the 2026 season.
I would like to thank the organizers for bringing this incredible event to Greece. I am disappointed to miss it, but it is the right decision for my health. I will come back stronger. Thank you all for your support," Tsitsipas wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
