My Goal Is to Be Seeded at the US Open," Popyrin Reacts to His Defeat Against Zverev in Toronto

Alexei Popyrin's run came to an end on Monday night in Toronto, as he fell to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. The defending champion, the Australian will lose a significant number of points.
Paradoxically, he will break into the Top 20 the following week for the first time in his career, as the Canada Masters 1000 is being played over two weeks for the first time, delaying the points calculation by a week.
In next Monday’s rankings, he will have his points from last year added to this year’s. However, he will drop back to around 40th place after the week of August 18.
In a press conference, he reacted to this new ranking milestone and his short-term goals.
"It won’t last. I’ll lose 1,000 points at the end of this week, so it’ll be a quick in-and-out for me.
I’ll see how I play in Cincinnati. I hope to defend my points there—my goal is to be seeded at the US Open.
But if I keep playing the way I did this week, I hope to get back to where I was and even higher.
