"My mentality won't change," assures Swiatek as she begins her grass season

Iga Swiatek has yet to win a title this season. The Polish player, lacking confidence, still managed to reach the semifinals of Roland-Garros but ultimately surrendered her crown.
Defeated by Aryna Sabalenka (7-6, 4-6, 6-0), the world No. 8 did not claim the Porte d’Auteuil tournament for a fourth consecutive time. However, she still reassured herself with her performances, including wins against Raducanu, Rybakina, and Svitolina.
Absent from the prestigious Berlin lineup this week, Swiatek now hopes to intensify her grass-court preparation ahead of Wimbledon and will compete in the Bad Homburg tournament next week.
"My feelings are positive, especially when I look at what I achieved at Roland-Garros. I arrived in Paris with renewed energy. My match against Elena (Rybakina) showed that even when I was struggling, I had the mental strength and ability to come back and win, overcoming obstacles.
Then, I played another solid match against Elina (Svitolina), and I also believe my semifinal against Aryna (Sabalenka) was of good quality. I didn’t get the result I wanted, but I tell myself I lost to the world No. 1. In the end, I’m happy with myself. This tournament was another step in the right direction.
I don’t think about my ranking every day—my mindset hasn’t changed. Even when I was No. 1, I always said I didn’t pay too much attention to the rankings. After the Australian Open in February, there was a period where I was disappointed to see my ranking drop.
Now, I just want to focus on the work. Every sport works differently, but in the end, we know it’s very hard to stay consistent. You can’t always be at the top.
I know what my tools are and what I can show on the court. No matter the number next to my ranking, my mentality won’t change. I’d like to approach my next tournaments with the same attitude I had at Roland-Garros.
I hope this will lead to better results, and I’ll work for that—that’s for sure," she said in a recent interview with Polish media Sport.pl.
