Nadal: "At this point in my career, I can't complain".
A few minutes after losing the final match of his career to Botic van de Zandschulp, Rafael Nadal appeared in a press conference.
The Spaniard expressed his disappointment at not having been able to put his country in a favorable position to qualify for the Davis Cup semi-finals. Nevertheless, he confided that he wanted to live his moment to the full.
"It's not a satisfactory ending, that's just the way it is. It would have been if I'd given the team the first point to help them take the lead," says Nadal.
"But that wasn't the case. I lost my match, I went onto the court with an objective of being able to lend a hand in any way I could."
Nadal wanted to enjoy the moment for his last tournament
"Today, I was selected to be on court, I tried to help the team but it wasn't possible. That's all there is to it.
At this point in my career, I can't complain. I'm doing my best, trying to enjoy the moment and play with the right energy and attitude.
It didn't work out, but it was a possibility that could have happened."
With the defeat of the doubles team of Carlos Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers, Spain is officially eliminated and Rafael Nadal is a brand new retiree.
He leaves the limelight with a phenomenal list of honours (92 titles, 22 Grand Slams, 36 Masters 1000, 5 Davis Cups and an Olympic singles gold medal).
