Nadal: "I tried to do my best, but it wasn't enough".
This Tuesday, November 19, 2024, tennis legend Rafael Nadal officially played the last match of his career.
The Spaniard was beaten by Botic van de Zandschulp and his country was eliminated in the Davis Cup quarter-finals by the Netherlands.
"Of course, it was an emotional day. I was a bit nervous before what could be my last match as a professional tennis player.
That's how I felt about it. And then, of course, the emotion of hearing the national anthem for the last time in my career was strong," assured the Majorcan in a press conference.
Nadal gave his all on the court against van de Zandschulp
"It's a mixture of several feelings that makes things a little more difficult, but that's it. We stepped onto the court, we lived the moment," he continued.
"I tried to do my best. I did everything I could to try and stay positive at all times. Playing with the right energy wasn't enough."
Rafael Nadal didn't forget to be fair to his opponent, who beat him evenly for the first time in three meetings.
"Congratulations to Botic, that's all. He was better than me. There's not much more to say. There's no need to analyze anything anymore."
