Nadal officially retired after Spain's defeat!
Rafael Nadal's career officially came to an end on Tuesday November 19, 2024 in Málaga. The Spaniard, who had made this Davis Cup 2024 his last professional competition, lost with Spain in the quarter-finals to the Netherlands (2-1).
Wesley Koolhof and Botic Van de Zandschulp were too strong for Carlos Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers in the decisive doubles (7-6[4], 7-6[3]). Previously, Rafael Nadal had lost to Van de Zandschulp (6-4, 6-4) in first singles and Alcaraz had beaten Tallon Griekspoor in second singles (7-6[0], 6-3).
The Netherlands will now face the winner of Wednesday's quarter-final between Germany and Canada in the semi-finals.
For Nadal, a new life begins tomorrow. A life without professional tennis, without record-breaking goals, without injuries to heal. But before that, Davis Cup organizers are planning a fitting tribute to him this Tuesday evening, with a ceremony on the court where David Ferrer's players have just lost.
