Nadal honored by the King of Spain for his illustrious career
On the anniversary of his proclamation, Felipe VI granted noble titles to six Spanish personalities to honor their outstanding careers. These are the first noble titles awarded by the King of Spain.
As a result, tennis legend Rafael Nadal was named the new Marquis of Llevant de Majorque. However, he was not the only athlete to receive an honorary title, as swimmer Teresa Fernández Perales was also made the Marchioness of Perales.
"They are representatives of excellence, whether in service to the Crown or in the fields of thought, culture, science, arts, and sports," said Felipe VI.
Nadal had already been honored by the king before. In 2008, the 22-time Grand Slam champion was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports by Felipe VI. That year, the Spaniard had an impressive season, achieving a Roland Garros-Wimbledon double, an Olympic gold medal, a second Davis Cup victory, and the world No. 1 ranking.
