Nadal joins Djokovic in the second round!
Rafael Nadal suffered, but triumphed.
Winner in doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz last night, the Majorcan made the transition to singles, holding off a very good Marton Fucsovics (6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in 2h31).
After a thunderous start to the match in which he didn't give his opponent a chance to breathe, "Rafa" began to lose a little of his concentration. Seizing the opportunity, his opponent greatly raised his game, winning the second act rather logically (6-1, 4-6).
Embarked on a perilous final set, Nadal gave nothing away, saving three break points in a row (at 2-1, 0-40). Brilliantly, the Spaniard broke in the very next game, never letting go of his prey.
After one of his best matches of the season, the King of clay continues his adventure and will now face Novak Djokovic in the second round. A 60th duel between two legends of the game. It's a match that's sure to send passions wild.
Can he keep the dream alive? Can he topple a Djokovic on a mission? The answer will probably be given on Monday.
