Nadal pays tribute to Verdasco: We had some great battles.

Fernando Verdasco is now officially retired from tennis, following his defeat at the Doha doubles tournament, where he was partnered by Novak Djokovic.

Many players paid tribute to the former world No. 7. His compatriot Rafael Nadal is one of them.

He declared on his social networks: "We had some great battles on the tennis courts and with Spain in the Davis Cup.

Congratulations on your superb career. I hope you'll now be able to enjoy your family and your new challenges even more.

See you soon."

In the post, Nadal attached a photo of himself and Verdasco during their epic 2009 clash at the Australian Open, won by Rafa in 5 sets.
