Nadal recalls: "An unforgettable experience
Rafael Nadal is no longer a professional tennis player. After writing the history of our sport for almost 20 years, the Majorcan has finally bowed out.
In an interview with 'The Players Tribute', Rafa opened up about his career and, in particular, his early years. He confided that he didn't really have any idols until he met Carlos Moya: "I wasn't a child who really had any sporting idols. I suppose it had something to do with my Majorcan character. My heroes were people I knew in real life. But at the age of 12, I had the opportunity to play with Carlos Moyà for the first time.
Another Spaniard, also from Majorca. The French Open champion and the first Spanish player to become number 1. I was so nervous about hitting a few balls with him.
It was an unforgettable experience, a window onto another world. Tennis went from being just a bit of fun - a child's game - to a real life goal. It made me dream a little more. Maybe one day I'll be able to play at Roland-Garros...".
