Next Gen ATP Finals: ATP Shakes Up the Rules Again with Two New Regulations Introduced in Jeddah
The Next Gen ATP Finals, recognized as the ATP's experimental laboratory, will introduce two new rules for its eighth edition, which will take place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from December 17 to 21.
Two weeks before the start of the tournament, the official ATP website unveiled these adjustments, which add to a set of rules already in place.
A reduction in break time between sets
The match format remains unchanged: best-of-five sets, each played to four games with a tie-break at 3-3. However, players will now have a shorter break between sets. This will be reduced from 120 to 90 seconds, aiming to speed up the flow of matches.
For spectators, new arrangements are also planned. They will be able to move freely in the stands during the first three games.
After that, those seated at the back of the court must remain seated, while spectators in other areas can continue to move between points.
