Next Gen ATP Finals: Basavareddy topples Shang and still has a chance of reaching the semi-finals

A crucial encounter at the Next Gen ATP Finals.

Nishesh Basavareddy and Shang Juncheng were both beaten in the first match of the red group and must now win the opening match of the second day if they are to qualify for the semi-finals.

The Chinese got off to the best possible start, winning the first set in a tie-break, but was soon overcome by nausea.

The American took advantage of this to come back and even take a clear lead. Physically diminished, Shang finally gave in and lost (3-4, 4-2, 4-2, 4-1).

The other match of the day in this group pits Alex Michelsen against France's Luca Van Assche.

The winner will advance to the last four, while the loser will have one last chance to qualify. Basavareddy will play Van Assche and Shang will challenge Michelsen.
