Opelka makes (a bit of) history on its comeback!
What a comeback!
After not having played a single round on the main circuit for two years, Reilly Opelka is making a crazy return to competition.
Registered with Newport, the American has become the lowest-ranked player in history to reach the semi-finals of an ATP tournament.
Ranked 1188th this week, he dislodges Juan Martin Del Potro, who reached the semi-finals at Delray Beach (2016) when he was ranked 1042nd.
The American giant's impressive string of victories includes wins over Lestienne (6-1, 2-6, 7-6), Mannarino (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) and McDonald (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
For a place in the final, he faces Alex Michelsen, ranked 61st in the world, this Saturday.
