Paolini: "I don't know how I did it (laughs)".
Jasmine Paolini qualified for the Wimbledon final by beating Donna Vekic (2-6, 6-4, 7-6) on Thursday. As at Roland Garros, the Italian couldn't believe her achievement. Beaming, she also explained how much it meant to her to succeed in playing this type of match at Wimbledon.
Jasmine Paolini: "It was very hard. Donna played really well. She was hitting winners everywhere. I was in a bit of trouble at first, but I kept telling myself to fight on every ball. Because I was serving really badly at the beginning (laughs). I'm just so happy with this win. I think I'll remember this match forever (laughs).
I don't know how I kept believing (laughs). I tried to think about what I had to do on the court. Point by point. Because I was really... in trouble.
But, you know, there's no better place than here to fight on every ball, on every point. For a tennis player, this is the best place to play a match like this."
