Paris Masters 1000: Medvedev Wins Comfortably Against Munar and Reaches the Round of 16
Daniil Medvedev dominated Jaume Munar in two sets to advance to the second round in Paris.
Medvedev was making his debut at the Paris Masters 1000. Facing Jaume Munar, the Russian, who won the title in Almaty two weeks ago, is gradually regaining his confidence. For his first round at La Défense Arena, the world number 13 faced Jaume Munar and hoped to get revenge against the Spaniard, who had beaten him earlier in the season in the second round of the Miami Masters 1000 (6-2, 6-3).
In Florida, the current world number 36 had managed to frustrate Medvedev with numerous drop shots and had prepared for today's match in the same way. But the Russian, who won in Paris in 2020, this time had the answer in his racket.
After a first set wrapped up in just 29 minutes, the 29-year-old player confirmed in the second set with a break in the middle of the set that allowed him to pull away definitively. Without conceding a single break point, Medvedev wins (6-1, 6-3 in 1h09) and advances to the second round where he will face Grigor Dimitrov.
The Russian responds well after his early loss in Vienna against Corentin Moutet and wins his first match in the tournament since his 2021 semifinal against Alexander Zverev (6-2, 6-2 at the time).
Medvedev thus ends a streak of four consecutive losses in Paris after the final four years ago against Novak Djokovic and his eliminations in the second round (against Alex De Minaur in 2022, Grigor Dimitrov in 2023, and Alexei Popyrin in 2024).
