Pegula Reaches Her Fourth Final of the Season in Charleston
Exactly one week after her loss in the Miami WTA 1000 final against Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula secured her spot in the Charleston tournament final this Saturday, narrowly defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-2, 2-6, 7-5).
As in her match against Collins the day before, the world No. 4 was pushed to her limits (conceding six breaks) but ultimately prevailed.
The other semifinal on the schedule featured Sofia Kenin against Amanda Anisimova. However, the match ended abruptly, with Anisimova retiring in the first set (5-2) due to a back injury.
Kenin, ranked 44th in the WTA rankings, had not reached a clay-court final since Roland-Garros in 2020. The final on Charleston’s green clay will now be an all-American showdown.
