Pegula withdraws from Brisbane tournament
Jessica Pegula, ranked 7th in the world, was due to start her 2025 season at the Brisbane tournament (December 30 - January 5).
However, the American withdrew from the first event of the season due to a knee injury.
The same injury had already forced her to end 2024 before her last match at the WTA Finals.
Although she made an exhibition appearance at the Garden Cup earlier this month, Pegula has clearly not recovered sufficiently from the injury to compete against the other players lining up in Brisbane.
It remains to be seen whether this withdrawal will jeopardize her participation in the Australian Open.
