Petchey, Murray's ex-coach: "He won't go to Australia with Djokovic unless it's to win another Australian Open".
In an interview with sports betting site Betway, former 80ᵉ world player Mark Petchey reflected on the unexpected collaboration between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
It has to be said that the Brit knows the Scot very well, having coached him when the latter was starting to climb the ladder of the ATP circuit. At the time, he even led the newly-retired player into the world's top 50.
In his opinion, Murray isn't here for nothing: "I've heard that Novak is hiring a buddy for the end of his career. Andy's not cut out for that. He wouldn't let me beat him in a video game.
He's not going to Australia with Novak unless it's to win another Australian Open, his 25th Major and a record 11th Australian Open."
Convinced, he also stressed the opportunity this represented for Murray at a time when many players are struggling to find their way (neo-retired): "It's a great challenge for Andy. For most of these great champions, it's a period of emptiness, during which they try to find value in their lives. It's very difficult for many of these great champions to cope with that."
