Petchey on Raducanu: "I really think she'll win several Grand Slams".
Emma Raducanu, surprise winner of the US Open in 2021 against Leylah Fernandez, has since struggled to confirm her new status.
The 22-year-old Briton hasn't won a single title since, due to recurring injuries that have prevented her from playing in a succession of tournaments.
Ranked 10th in the world in 2022, she is now back to a good level, currently 59th on the WTA.
A former professional player between 1988 and 1998, Mark Petchey still believes in Raducanu's qualities and believes she can still win Grand Slam titles, particularly in Australia.
"I would never put the brakes on her potential. I really believe she'll win several Grand Slams before the end of her career.
It's probably an exaggeration to say she could win the Australian Open, but I don't think it's out of reach either.
All I know is that if she's healthy, has enough matches in her legs before Australia and has a favourable draw, she'll have a chance of fighting for the title.
Of course, a more realistic goal would be to reach the quarter-finals in Melbourne.
There was certainly no plan for Emma to win the US Open, yet she did. I don't think she should follow anyone else's path," he elaborated for First Sportz.
