Petkovic takes a hard line with Alcaraz: "When he's bad, he's terribly bad".
Andrea Petkovic appeared on the Rennae Stubbs podcast this week, talking about various hot topics in tennis news.
When discussing Carlos Alcaraz, who will start 2025 with the aim of winning the only Grand Slam he's missing, the former player criticized the moments of weakness he can experience: "There's a downside I have with Carlos that other players don't have.
Zverev, Jannik or Novak don't have this problem. When Carlos is bad, he's terribly bad. He has no plan B, because he's Carlos Alcaraz, who has won four Grand Slams.
But he doesn't put a ball in the court anymore, he makes double faults, he misses and he can't get into a rally.
So when Carlos is bad, he's very bad. When he's at his best, he's probably the best player.
He had a 3-0 record against Sinner, who was the best player of the season.
But when he's not at his best, he can lose to Jakub Mensik. Sinner probably wouldn't lose to Mensik."
