Piatti, former coach of Sinner: "He always had the potential to become very strong and win Grand Slam tournaments"

Riccardo Piatti worked alongside Jannik Sinner for eight years before ending his collaboration with the current world No. 1 in early 2022.
In an interview with Tennis Majors, the Italian coach opened up about the end of his relationship with Sinner:
"Two years before we stopped working together, I told him that when he became good, I would like him to find someone else to help him.
But before that, he had to become good (laughs). And of course, after that, we stopped, but he made a good choice by hiring Darren Cahill.
The rest of his team is also doing an excellent job. But that's part of his life, I have no problem with that, and I am very happy with the eight years I worked for him.
We always had very clear ideas about him. In 2021, he was ranked 9th in the world, but I explained to him that it didn't matter if he kept making a lot of mistakes.
Because with every match he lost, he just had to make sure he didn't lose the same way the next time.
When he started on the ATP tour, I told him he would be Top 10 after 150 matches. He did it in 139 matches. I then told him he needed 100 more matches to win a Grand Slam.
And of course, he ended up winning one. He always had the potential to become very strong and win Grand Slam tournaments."
