Pouille withdraws from third round at Wimbledon!

Lucas Pouille will not face Alex De Minaur this Saturday in the third round of Wimbledon. Injured, the Frenchman had to forfeit the match after undergoing medical examinations, the results of which were less positive than expected.

Having suffered a back and thigh injury since qualifying, he had already come close to retiring against Thanasi Kokkinakis in the previous round. He explained this after his match.

Lucas Pouille: "During qualifying, I had a quadriceps (thigh) injury and back pain, so I had to compensate. Against Kokkinakis, my whole team told me to stop at 6-2 (1st set lost). I told myself that if I got a break, I'd stop. I was afraid of aggravating the injury. I called the physiotherapist who got me to hold on.

I changed my game, trying to hit at least 80% of my first balls without forcing myself too much. From then on, I relaxed. I took advantage of opportunities by being very aggressive on the return. And it worked. Even though he hurt himself (Kokkinakis injured his knee and had to retire at the end of the 3rd set), I really had the upper hand from the end of the second set onwards.

I was told to give up so as not to jeopardize the summer. I don't know what I've got (as an injury), so we're going to do some tests to give ourselves a chance of being as good as possible on Saturday."
