Raducanu Defeats Tjen and Advances to the Third Round at the US Open
After coming through qualifying and then pulling off a surprise win against Kudermetova in the first round of the US Open, Indonesia's Janice Tjen made history for her country by securing a victory in the main draw of a Grand Slam—a result that hadn't been achieved in 22 years.
Facing Raducanu in the next round, the 23-year-old player seemed capable of troubling the 2021 finalist. However, up against a very solid opponent, she fell in two sets with a harsh scoreline of 6-2, 6-1.
On her part, Raducanu confirmed her current strong form and secured her 26th win of the season, her second at Flushing Meadows in four years. Playing with confidence, she notably landed 80% of her first serves and committed no double faults throughout the match.
For a spot in the round of 16, she will face the winner of the match between Rybakina and Valentova.
