Roland-Garros 2025: Blancaneaux and Blanchet qualified, seven French players including Mayot and Kouamé eliminated in the first round of qualifications

The day was intense for the French camp as the first round of qualifications came to a close. While four French players had managed to pass this hurdle at the start of the day, notably Titouan Droguet who defeated Borna Coric and Luca Van Assche who eliminated his compatriot Adrian Mannarino, two other Frenchmen joined them (in addition to Arthur Géa and Clément Tabur).
These players are Geoffrey Blancaneaux and Ugo Blanchet. The former made quick work of Mikhail Kukushkin (6-1, 6-1). Ranked 270th in the world, he will face Thiago Seyboth Wild, the 112th-ranked player, to try to reach the third round of qualifications. Meanwhile, Ugo Blanchet overcame Chris Rodesch (6-4, 7-6) and will face Cristian Garin in the next round.
The Chilean indeed ended Harold Mayot's run. As the 32nd seed, the Frenchman was unlucky to come up against Garin, ranked 122nd at the ATP, who was solid in securing the victory (6-3, 6-4). Another French player eliminated at the start was Hugo Grenier.
The latter led 6 points to 0 in the first set tiebreak against Eliot Spizzirri before eventually losing it and being defeated (7-6, 4-6, 7-6). A revelation of recent weeks, Moïse Kouamé was unable to capitalize.
After competing in the Masters 1000 Madrid qualifications, the 16-year-old player, ranked 835th in the world, suffered a fifth consecutive defeat, this time against Pol Martin Tiffon (2-6, 6-4, 6-3).
The Spaniard, on the verge of the top 200, found the resources to turn the situation around. He secured a high-profile match against Marin Cilic, the 2014 US Open champion. In a closely contested match, Calvin Hemery, ranked 171st in the world, eventually gave way to American player Michael Mmoh (6-7, 7-5, 6-3), while Antoine Escoffier was defeated by Otto Virtanen in two sets (7-6, 6-3).
Finally, two other French players were eliminated on Tuesday. Luka Pavlovic was dominated by Tomas Barrios Vera (6-4, 6-3), while Robin Bertrand, who received a wild card from the organizers, put up a strong resistance against Henrique Rocha in the first set, before ultimately falling (7-6, 6-2) against the 201st-ranked player.
