Roland-Garros 2025: Italian Pair Errani/Vavassori Crowned Mixed Doubles Champions

This Thursday marked the conclusion of the mixed doubles tournament at Roland-Garros. The third-seeded Italian duo, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, faced off against the fourth-seeded American pair Taylor Townsend and Evan King, who had knocked out the defending champions Laura Siegemund and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarterfinals.
In a controlled final (3 breaks converted out of 11 break points, 16 winners to just 9 unforced errors), the Italians had the final say, winning in straight sets (6-4, 6-2 in 1 hour and 11 minutes) on Court Philippe-Chatrier. This match kicked off a packed Thursday schedule at Roland-Garros.
Later in the afternoon, the two women's singles semifinals will take place (Sabalenka vs. Swiatek in a blockbuster clash and Boisson vs. Gauff, featuring the last remaining French player in the draw).
This marks the second Grand Slam title together for Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. Last year, they triumphed at the US Open, defeating the American pair Taylor Townsend and Donald Young.
The duo also reached the quarterfinals at last year’s Olympics, narrowly losing 11-9 in the third-set tiebreak to the Dutch pair Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof.
Notably, Sara Errani, who turned 38 a few weeks ago, is still competing in the women’s doubles and will play in the semifinals alongside Jasmine Paolini against the Russian pair Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider—a clash between two of the tournament’s top four teams.
The Italian also played her final career singles match in the second round of qualifying against Anna-Lena Friedsam. It’s been a busy tournament for the 2012 finalist, who faced Maria Sharapova in that year’s championship match.
